Tribal Beat out to sparkle in G3 Amethyst Stakes

Racenews

Lightly raced five-year-old Tribal Beat makes his first appearance for a year in the G3 Amethyst Stakes at Leopardstown, Ireland, on Sunday, 13 May.

The son of Street Cry, trained by Jim Bolger and ridden by Kevin Manning, finished a close fifth in the mile contest 12 months ago – his only outing in 2017.

Tribal Beat ran on strongly to win the G3 Desmond Stakes, also over a mile at Leopardstown in August, 2016, and was runner-up at the same course in the seven-furlong G3 Killavullan Stakes as a juvenile in October, 2015.

He lines up against six rivals headed by multiple G1 victor Gordon Lord Byron, plus Brendan Brackan and True Valour, who have both placed at G2 level.

Jimmy Hyland of Godolphin said: “Tribal Beat may lack race fitness, but he is a course and distance winner and his class will put him there with a winning chance.

“He has had his issues, but Jim Bolger has always thought highly of the horse, which is why we have kept him in training.

“Hopefully, Tribal Beat is fit and fresh enough to run a big race.”
