Sunset Point grabs G3 Black Type at Saint-Cloud

Racenews

Dubawi filly Sunset Point acquitted herself well on her first G3 start as she came home third in the Prix Belle de Nuit at Saint-Cloud, France, on Sunday, 22 October.

The full-sister to G2 Balanchine winner Creative Flair was prominent throughout the 14-furlong contest and raced behind the leaders initially before moving up to track the front-running Caius Chorister after the first two furlongs.

Sunset Point closed in on the lead as the whole field came up the inside rail in the straight and the Charlie Appleby-trained three-year-old briefly disputed the running a furlong and a half out.

Caius Chorister rallied and kicked away from the field again soon after, with Royal Mila passing Sunset Point for second inside the final furlong. Sunset Point kept on at the same pace under Mickael Barzalona, going down by just over six lengths in total.
