Doyle relishes return to the world famous Breeders' Cup meeting

By James Doyle

I am delighted to be riding at the 33rd Breeders' Cup at picturesque Santa Anita, just outside Los Angeles.

It's great to be back riding at the Breeders' Cup. It is my fourth time at this world-famous meeting, and it is wonderful that I have two good chances in Home Of The Brave (G1 Turf Sprint) and Dutch Connection (G1 Mile).

The atmosphere on the big day is something else. Just walking through the car park on Saturday will be an experience. Everybody is buzzing in anticipation.

Is it the big crowd, the great horses, or the huge prizemoney that makes this meeting what it is? I would say it is a bit of all three, really. Just getting legged up in the paddock, with a huge crowd watching, cheering their favourite, is brilliant.

The races themselves are all highly-competitive, as you would expect, and I believe both my horses will run well.

The Turf Sprint course, over six and a half furlongs at Santa Anita, has a downhill run that it pretty unusual in America. People say there is a big drop (descent), but they are people who haven't been to a course such as Brighton (UK). Now, that is certainly a downhill run to talk about.

I think Home Of The Brave will acquit himself well on the course. He has enough speed to hold his position, yet he is able to run a strong seven furlongs.

The Mile is one of the great contests at this year's Breeders' Cup. There are so many good chances, but I think from gate 7, we will have some speed inside us, plus some speed on the outside.

It might just work out for us. William has ridden Dutch Connection many times, and he has been able to advise me on the colt's strengths, and how best to make use of them in such a strong race.
