Dickinson second to Lady Eli

Racenews

Dickinsoninfo-icon finished a decent second in the G2 Ballston Spa Stakes over an extended mile on turf at Saratoga, USA, on Saturday, August 26.

The five-year-old Medaglia d’Oro mare, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and ridden by Paco Lopez, was drawn on the outside of the five-strong field, but broke well and soon took the lead.

She set a steady pace, with the first quarter-mile in 24.4s and the half-mile in 48.92s, before quickening turning in and kicking for home entering the straight.

Dickinson went a couple of lengths ahead but could not hold the challenge inside the final furlong of old opponent Lady Eli, who won by a length and a half in 1m 39.70s on firm ground, but took the runner-up position by a neck from Roca Rojo.

Kiaran McLaughlin commented: “Dickinson was second best to the champion.

“I am disappointed not to win, but pleased that she is back to form.

“There are several options for her, though no definite plans at the moment.”
