Central Avenue closes late for G1 Frizette Stakes second

Racenews

Central Avenue backed up the promise of her debut success as she flashed home to fill the runner-up spot in the G1 Frizette Stakes at Aqueduct, USA, on Saturday, 7 October.

Encountering a sloppy track for the first time, the Colonial Downs maiden winner endured an early bump from Princess Indy and was held up in a clear last of the six runners.

Central Avenue moved up a spot turning for home, although the Michael Stidham-trained juvenile still had plenty of work to do as Just F Y I took up the running at the top of the straight.

Javier Castellano switched Central Avenue down the inner rail a furlong and a half out and the Godolphin homebred quickened strongly to grab second from Life Talk inside the final-half furlong, going down by just under four lengths to Just F Y I.
