'Snail's' Pace impresses Godolphin

J A McGrath

Brian The Snail, unbeaten in two outings last year, has been purchased by Godolphin and will remain in the stable of Richard Fahey.

Fahey has high hopes for the son of Zebedee, who is set to make his seasonal debut in the Godolphin Royal Blue colours in a small six-furlong race at Pontefract on April 11.

"He is a useful sprinter in the making," the trainer predicted.

"Both his wins were over five furlongs but I feel he will be all the better for the step up to six -- and better ground. He has done well over the winter, and I am delighted Godolphin have bought him to stay in the stable," Fahey added.

Brian The Snail and Zebedee are characters in the children's television show, 'The Magic Roundabout.'

Meanwhile, Fahey reported that Ribchester, who finished a solid third in Godolphin colours in the G1 Dubai Turf at Meydan on Saturday, had come out of the race well. His next scheduled engagement is the G1 Lockinge Stakes, over one mile, at Newbury on May 20.
