Frontiersman and Best Solution head Newbury quartet

Racenews

Frontiersman and Best Solution, who have both finished second at G1 level this year, feature among four Godolphin runners at Newbury, UK, on Saturday, October 28.

The duo line up in the 12-furlong G3 St Simon Stakes, with Frontiersman (Charlie Appleby/James Doyle) having stayed on gamely to score by half a length over Red Galileo in the Listed Godolphin Stakes over the same distance at Newmarket, UK, on September 29.

The four-year-old Dubawi colt ran a fine race to take second in the G1 Coronation Cup, also over a mile and a half, at Epsom Downs in June and came home third on soft ground in the extended 13-furlong G3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury in August.

Charlie Appleby said: “We were delighted to see Frontiersman win at Newmarket following a couple of defeats and he has come out of that race in good order.

“The intention was to put him away for the year but he is so fresh and well in himself, while this race is there to suit him.

“A repeat performance of his latest start would see him be very competitive.”

Three-year-old colt Best Solution (Saeed bin Suroor/Pat Cosgrave) has twice filled the runner-up spot in G1 races over a mile and a quarter, in the Grosser Dallmayr-Preis at Munich, Germany, in July, and last season’s Criterium de Saint-Cloud at Saint-Cloud, France.

The son of Kodiac readily captured an extended 11-furlong Listed race at Lingfield Park in May and was fifth on his latest outing in the G1 Grosser Preis Von Baden over a mile and a half at Baden-Baden, Germany, on September 3.

Saeed bin Suroor commented: “Best Solution has always run his best races on softer ground, so conditions at Newbury should suit.

“This looks a good race for him in terms of class and trip. He has been working well and has a good chance.”

Charlie Appleby and James Doyle also team up with two promising juveniles including Mythical Magic, who drops down in class and trip for the seven-furlong G3 Horris Hill Stakes after coming home fifth over a mile in the G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Chantilly, France, on October 1.

The Iffraaj colt was a close third in the G2 Champagne Stakes over seven furlongs at Doncaster on September 16 and started out with a pair of impressive wins, including an easy success in the seven-furlong Listed Prix Francois Boutin at Deauville, France, in August.

Expressiy, sixth in the seven-furlong G3 Godolphin Lifetime Care Oh So Sharp Stakes at Newmarket on October 13, aims for a third victory over the same trip in the Listed Radley Stakes.

Charlie Appleby added: “Mythical Magic is in good form. We are putting a line through his run in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere and he came out of it with no problems.

“His work has been good, while the ground won’t be a concern and the drop back to seven furlongs should suit.

“We felt that Expressiy ran a creditable race at Newmarket and ease in the ground will suit her. I am hopeful that she can run into a place.”
